Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Cars, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Swastikas are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the case" and have requested to the residents for information.
A senior political figure said the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This event strikes at the core of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right attack half a decade ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the killing of nine people by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in 2020.
